Del Norte is still going Bananas in Cameroon...        It's been updated to the latest Flying Flagman Intelliflow system. June 2005

In June 2005 Del Norte supplied the very latest technology Flying Flagman Intelliflow system to the Banana plantation in Cameroon. The original Flying Flagman system has now worked for 10 years with very few problems.

Flying Flagman derives its name from the system used for crop spraying before the advent of small sophisticated positioning and guidance systems that could be fitted into aircraft. The old mechanical method involved using people holding aloft a flag on a pole to which the pilot aimed, spraying chemicals as he flew down the field. This was highly dangerous to the person holding the flag who was likely to be sprayed, and almost as dangerous to the pilot who was likely to hit the pole and crash.

The latest system being installed in Cameroon uses the latest DGPS technology with EGNOS and LBand  enabled Del Norte Flying Flagman System with Intelliflow enabling variable rate spraying dependant on the speed of the aircraft.

The pilot can fly race track or single lines and record all the sprayed areas on the latest technology logging system and then plot out the flown areas using the latest 'FliteTrac 2005 software.

Crop Spraying has to be carried out on a regular basis, particularly to prevent damage from mould on the banana crop which can be a major problem in Cameroon. During the wet season in Cameroon, the banana crop has to be sprayed with a fungicide for three weeks out of four to maintain the quality crop required by the world market. Using the Flying Flagman System has greatly simplified the logistics of the task and provides a full record of what has been sprayed to the operator.

The increase in crop yield, the improved quality of the end product and the improved health and safety aspects of the system more than covers the cost to the end user.
